I must be on a lucky streak.
First, I officially graduate with unexpectedly good grades.
I took 4 classes this semester.
1) Methodology in Language Teaching:
I completely neglected some of the assignments.
I was supposed to write weekly journals reflecting each and every class.
There were a total of 15 sessions plus some additional works.
I had managed to get only 5 journals done.
The solid A seemed out of reach.
And I was right; I only got a B.
2) Individual Study Project:
Never have I thought that my little research would get me far.
It surprisingly did.
I got a remarkable A from that course.
Gosh! That was beyond my widest dream.
Moreover, my advisor told me that some experts in the field are interested in my work.
I am appointed to present my findings at the post National Seminar organized by CULI.
(CULI = Chulalongkorn University Language Institution)
3) Current Trends in English Language Instruction:
Chula invited an expert from the USA to teach this course.
Dr. Mary Ann Christison is specialized in brain-based instruction and multiple intelligence theory.
She is one of the prominent experts in this area.
Studying with someone ranking quite high in the food chain made me nervous.
Nevertheless, perseverance, positive attitude and lots of caffeine helped me through.
I got an A from Dr.Christison.
4) English Lexicology:
Oh, where should I begin with this subject?
This course is about the study of words.
Its the first step of making a dictionary.
I was trained to analyze and criticize.
I had to criticize dictionaries like how good they are, how organized they are;
as well as make further suggestions.
Im an EFL speaker.
How dare I criticize the world renowned well-built dictionaries?
Cambridge, Longman, Oxford, Macmillan.
This course turned out to be quite fun.
I think the compliment should go all the way to my professor.
He was a great teacher trying to help everyone with their struggling projects.
Mine in particular.
I was determined to find lexical cohesion between the lyrics in the Disney soundtracks and the main themes of the movies.
Its easier said than done.
Making some fun loving topic into an academic research is not easy.
My professor took one look at the project proposal, thought for 5 seconds;
and gave me the list of references that had some connections with the topic.
How great was that!
In the end, I only got a B+ from him.
During the end of the semester, I was obsessed with the IS.
Plus my boss asked me to magically create a new book for the revised lesson plan.
(Notice the words 'magically create')
This was not at all a burden since Im always ready to work according to all of her demands.
However, the whole 150 pages had to be done within 10 days.
10 DAYS!
Somehow I managed to get through everything.
But the project for Lexicology wasnt as good as I expected.
It was just an OK job for me.
Since I havent put my 100% effort on this one,
a B+ is considered a suitable match for my 70% body of work.
All in all, I completed my last semester at Chula with 3.63 GPA.
I know its not that high.
But considered that I have to work and study at the same time,
this grade is more than sufficient.
